Sierra Leone Innovates

My first visit to Sierra Leone last week was an amazing one as I got to attend the country’s first ever Innovate Tech Summit organised by the Ministry of Communication, Technology and Innovation.

Grateful for the leadership of H.E. President Julius Maada Bio, Chief Minister David Moinina Sengeh, and Minister of Communications, Technology and Innovation, Salima Bah.

Representing Nubia Capital, I had the opportunity to have insightful discussions with key figures including the Vice President Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh (turned out we attended the same university!), the Minister of Finance Sheku A. F. Bangura, Governor of the Bank of Sierra Leone Dr. Ibrahim Stevens, and Fatima Mahawa Sandi, Deputy Executive Director - National Investment Board, among others.

I also had the privilege of sharing the stage with Joel Ogunsola, Shane O'Connor, Ransford Mensah, PhD, and Sebastian Ashong-Katai where we discussed on the access to finance and tech startup revenue raising.

Sierra Leone is positioning to build a tech city and establish an innovation fund that will transform the country’s tech and startup landscape.

This will be a game changer for the youthful population that has over 65% under the age of 25.

It will create a hub for investments and growth in the region and will bring the nation to the forefront of technological innovation globally.

The event and the meetings highlighted the vibrancy of Sierra Leone entrepreneurial ecosystem and the significance of venture capital as a much-needed investment class for the Sierra Leone economy.

Thank you to the Government and people of Sierra Leone for the warm welcome and hospitality.

I look forward to the bright future that Sierra Leone holds, and I am eager to be part of the process.
